Driving Routes
Ramble through the unspoiled beauty of our Purple Hills. Visit places hidden from the
crowds. Find people who make this such a wonderful corner of Ontario to live in.
Please be mindful that as you are doing these driving routes that most of these roads
are gravel roads. Some are narrow at spots so be courteous to oncoming traffic. We hope
that you will enjoy the experiences and leave it as you found it for those who explore
after you.
Driving Route #1
We depart from Creemore via Caroline Street West to the 4th Line past
the Cemetery and over a one lane bridge. When you come to Sideroad 7/8 you turn Right (West)
go to the stop sign then turn Left (South) onto the 5th Line. Follow this road South around
the bend and into Lavender. At Lavender go straight until the road goes around to the Left
(South) and a small track goes off to the Right. Take the turn to the
Left (don’t worry it is a road) it will then angle to the Right and onto County Road 124. When
you come to 124 turn Right (North) until you come to County Road 9 at Maple Valley. You take
County Road 9’s meandering route by the Noisy River into Dunedin. Make sure you take the time
to enjoy the panoramic view of our hills. As you come into Dunedin there is a small park on
the right just before the bridge. So get out, stretch your legs and listen to the Noisy River.
Continuing through Dunedin you want to take the 8th Line towards Glen Huron. Once you come
into Glen Huron there is a water wheel on your left you can take a break here or turn Right (East)
on through the glen. Giffen’s Market is on the Right where the road crosses the Mad River and
there is a pond where you can also rest awhile. You then continue on this road crossing the
6th Line up a one-lane dirt road to Fairgrounds Road. Once you come to the stop sign you will
turn Right (South) towards the village of Creemore. Take the time to enjoy the view from the
top of the hill and as you wandering down into Creemore.
Driving Route #2
This route takes you out on County Road 9 West
towards Dunedin. You first hear the babblings of the Mad River then further down the road it is
the Noisy River that flows by the road on the way into Dunedin. As soon as you cross the bridge
in Dunedin there is a park off to the left where you can stretch your legs (use at own risk).
Once you go over the bridge you take the road to the Left towards Lavender. You continue through
Lavender South towards County Road 21 (paved road). Once you reach County Road 21 you turn Left (East).
The views along this road are amazing. Be sure to keep an eye on the road as well. You stay on this
road until you come to the 3rd Line of Mulmur then you turn Left (North). This road is gravel
and also has some beautiful views from its high points. This road goes down to one lane and
winds quite drastically through a small valley. When you reach the stop sign continue straight
onto the 5th Line, which has some great vantage points on it as you make your way towards Creemore.
You will start to go down hill and wind your way into town via Caroline Street.
